This week's theme is 'rare'...this is the picture of a newly emerged river terrapin or Batagur baska...It was taken at Dungun River, Terengganu...

for information, this river terrapin @ tuntung sungai in Malay, can only be found in India, Bangladesh, Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra, and Cambodia...it has been listed as Critically Endangered species in the IUCN Red List..this species is 'rarely' seen in wild now...i am soo lucky because i have the opportunity to work with this species..some of the people outside don't even know how this terrapin or tuntung look like...

It's lovely, I hope there are conservation programs going on for this river terrapin!!! In my province we have a "pawikan" (Olive Ridley turtles (Lepidochelys Olivacea are the smallest in the world)) sanctuary. The Olive Ridley turtles is also endanged. People used to get the eggs and eat them but now, they turned into advocates. Now, they secure the eggs laid during the nesting season (between September and January) and transfer them into the hatchery to facilitate breeding and later on, release the baby turtles to the sea.

Neat picture...Enjoyed it!

Hope you can participate in the BLogging Scavenger Hunt Starting Monday! Would love to see you there!

What a little creature. It is beautiful: I love the feet. I wonder why it is endangered?
